How the race unfolded

Under apprentice Lauren Young, who claimed a valuable 5lb, Dandy Magic saw off eleven rivals to take the Class 4 handicap over 6f – holding Milford at bay by 1¼ lengths on the line. A rewarding 12/1 result for the club.

A first win of the season for Dandy Magic – and one that has been building for weeks. Fourth at Ayr, fourth at Carlisle, fourth again in the Class 3 Ayr Gold Cup Trial, then third at Ascot – a run of honest, gutsy efforts where she has been knocking on the door without quite getting there. At Hamilton she finally got her reward.

That’s six wins now for Five Star Racing Club in 2026 – Naana’s Shadow with four, Cotai Starlight’s Ayr breakthrough in July, and now Dandy Magic joining the honour roll at Hamilton. A season that keeps giving, with more to come.

How the race unfolded

Drawn 2, Naana’s Shadow raced towards the centre of the track under Oisin Murphy. Prominent throughout, she was pushed to the front a furlong out and ridden right out to the line, holding U S S Charleston at bay by 1¾ lengths in 56.63s – fast by 0.17s and a proper 5f time on the day.

Four wins in five months from a truly special filly. Bold on the front end at Catterick, back-to-back Class 2 ‘Dash’ winner at Epsom and York, and now the standout performer in a big-field Glorious Goodwood handicap – she has taken everything asked of her and come back for more. The kind of tough, brave, effortless performer every racing club dreams of.

The handicapper has reacted (she’s now rated 94, up 22lb since her April reappearance) and she has a speculative Group 1 entry in the Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp on 5 October, with a Listed target at Cork in four weeks first. The ceiling on this filly keeps rising – and the club is going with her every step of the way.

How the race unfolded

A day to remember for everyone involved with the club. Cotai Starlight pressed the leader from the off under Jason Hart. Pushed along on the near side of the group over 2f out, she was ridden into the lead inside the final furlong and kept on well – a first career win, and at 28/1.

Behind her, Summerstorm’s Dream was on it too. Trained by Jim Goldie and ridden by Lauren Young, she took keen hold in touch with the leaders, made headway under 2f out and kept on all the way to the line to grab 2nd – beaten just 2¼ lengths on the day.

A proper 1-2 for the Five Star Racing Club and Summerstorm Bloodstock. Days like this are exactly why the club exists.

How the race unfolded

Right back to it – prominent from the off, Oisin had her settled in the front rank and travelling sweetly into the dip. With a furlong to run she had Schrodinger’s Cat on her outside and they went stride for stride.

Ridden out hard inside the final 100 yards, she dug deep and got her head in front in the final strides. Officially a short head. Heart-in-mouth stuff – and a proper performance.

Two Class 2 wins in three weeks under a champion jockey. An unbelievable run of form for Naana’s Shadow and the Five Star Racing Club.

🏆 Naana’s Shadow lands the ‘Dash’ at Epsom

How the race unfolded

Walked the parade ring like she belonged at Epsom – alert, looking around, settled in herself. From the stalls she broke smartly and Oisin had her disputing the lead from the off, then easing into the front rank up the rising ground.

She led narrowly with three furlongs to run and just refused to be passed. Inside the final furlong, Oisin gave her a nudge and she found again, repelling a late challenge from Call Margot to win by ¾ of a length.

A massive step up from Catterick – Class 5 to Class 2, the biggest field of her life, on Derby weekend, under a champion jockey. She passed every test.

How the race unfolded

Proud of herself in the ring having a look around and standing tall, she likes a little look around. Broke out well and Darragh got her into a nice rhythm, travelled strongly and ran well for no cover, very mature in herself to set the fractions.

She’s blitzed them from the front on the bridle, Darragh gives her a nudge at 1.5 furlong out and she picks up beautifully. Ears pricked and put 4 lengths on the field.

Overall, it was a very mature performance, a fantastic winner for all of us at the Five Star Racing Club.
